Best Boondocking Apps

When it comes to the best places to boondock, nothing beats local intel. Buy for those times when you don’t get into the area until late, boondocking apps are the next best thing for finding campsites, supply stations, and points of interest as you boldly go where you’ve never been before. We’ve tried a lot of apps, so we made this here best Best Boondocking Apps list ever! We compare the apps by the following features: campsites, support facilities, and things to do.

Campsites

Sleeping is the one thing you’re going to have to do every day so it’s probably pretty important that a boondocking app can help you find a safe, quiet, and preferably free place to do it. To figure out which app has the best information on campsites, we just picked a few spots and compared the results of each app.

The Campendium app does a darn good job just filtering on price. We didn’t see any erroneous results. You can also sort results in list view and filter by type, amenities, and other criteria.

Roadtrippers is more geared for planning roadtrips than just camping so we had to filtered by price and the “camping” keyword. There’s not as many results as Campendium, but there’s still a good amount. They’re also labeled in the map view which lets us see there’s some lodging facilities which probably aren’t free. We recommend using Roadtrippers to plan your road trips, but using one of the other apps to find campsites, then searching for them specifically in Roadtrippers to add to your road trip.
